Triple Dance

Background:

This work was composed for the birthday of Rhyme. Also this work expressed gratitude towards Rhyme’s work. The piece started with the dancing melody of Violins, then a humble melody of Cello. They symbolized Rhyme’s works and the composer, respectively. The difficult solo in the middle symbolized composer’s struggling in life. The grand ending of the work symbolized success of Rhyme’s works in inspiring composer.

From the perspective of the whole work, Cello seemed to want to play harmoniously with three other instruments, but often ended with leading to disharmony. When its solo was about to end, three other instruments joined and pushed the work to the climax, where all the four instruments really were played in harmony. The composer tried to arrange each instrument a role and display their personalities.

This was the first time the composer added a Cello solo in chamber music.

Trivia:

The four instruments in this work represented four persons:

  • 1st Violin: Rhyme (Ethereal, warm-hearted)
  • 2nd Violin: Someone in mainland China (Mean, unwelcoming)
  • Viola: Lipark (Helpful, caring)
  • Cello: The composer (Clumsy, humble)

This piece was also a gift for composer’s first meeting with Rhyme.
